I am the most happiest learning and practicing my passion

malaika paulJust sharing this photo because I am the most happiest learning and practicing my passion. This pic was taken Wednesday in front of my fashion design class. I'm having so much fun and hope you are too.

Quick thought of the day" being more mindful

Being more mindful and aware of my thoughts And how I spend my time.

For What am I trading my time?

I woke up asking questions this morning. Doing inventory on how I spend my time. Besides, that's all we really have is time. What is the trade off? Is the payoff worth it? Heading to Las Vegas this evening with friends for the weekend and may not be the best state of mind to be in while in Las Vegas.  However, I will enjoy my friends while laying poolside without complaint. Have a great weekend!

Practicing my Passion

I've been deep in thought about my final project for my Fashion Design & Sketching course. So for the last 9 weeks we've been learning drawing techniques, fabrications, color wheels and more. Now it's time to pull it all together starting from the inspiration board to 6 technical flats to illustration . The picture is the start of my inspiration board. I love vintage classic cars. In one of my earlier post I showed you a 1930 red classic car. So my task is to Illustrate 6 pieces using the details in the classic cars. I've done research on 1930s style and decided to design modern masculine looks, considering women revived the economy after the Great Depression.

Eating" Veggie Salad with Soup

What are your alternatives for lunch when you don't have time to prepare your own lunch?
I don't have many choices for healthy eating because of my location. It's either the taco stand at the corner or Korean fast food that was cooked at another location and transported from the trunk of someone's car through the front door. So if I don't bring my lunch from home my stomach is lost in translation. I recently found a grocery store with a salad bar with soup options made daily. At least that's what I tell myself.
What are your go to options for lunch?

Styling" New Military Look

"I believe in the power of contradiction"-Anna Molinari
I love wearing old aged gear with history and experience. My friend a retired army buff gave me one of his military jackets and I just love it. I paired it with soft snakeskin print skinnies and stilettos boots. I was feeling good girl gone bad at my friends barbecue yesterday. Added a touch of girlie with a new orange and yellow head wrap I made from 2 pieces of satin material I glued together with liquid stitch. It was a hit at the barbecue. We had a great weekend of fantastic weather. Hope you enjoyed your weekend.

Papillion Institute of Arts
Papillion Institute of Art (P.I.A.) 2nd Year Anniversary party last night in Downtown LA.  What better way to kick off the weekend with a Pre-Coachella party celebrating  Art and Music in one beautiful space. Shafiq Husayn & The Dove Society moved us with their mosaic sounds and the Dj Nattu was jamming.  He had  Shahari and I dancing like we used to party in Chicago.  Needless to say Michelle did a spectacular job last night hosting a true cultural experience in LA. Thank You! Michelle Papillion, Founder of Papillion Institute of Art. www.PapillionArt.org

Styling" FauxFur Vest

I can always count on this leopard faux fur vest I got at a fleamarket in Paris. I literally wear it with everything.  Today I layered it with a vintage blue and pink paisley dress and Blue suede Zara heels. Doesn't take much to dress like a lady.

Learning to practice my passion

With less than 3 months in my fashion design course at LATTC I am expected to illustrate a collection of swimsuits on fashion figures with flats. Needless to say my concept is undeveloped, technique is unpracticed and I have to turn in my assignment tomorrow. I feel an anxiety attack coming on.
Stop ! Breathe I can do this!
I will let you know how it turns out.

Moving" in Solitude

Sounds weird huh! In solitude you are advised to be still in your thoughts. For me I do my best work while moving.
This morning I went to Santa Monica Beach ran for 50 minutes then drove down the beautiful Ocean drive to Santa Monica stairs. Did 5 reps with 10lb weights. I took pics to show you what inspires me during my journey of solitude. Hoping everyone is having a happy Easter weekend!

Nikon in the City; San Francisco

I'm still learning to use my Nikon D3100 camera. I typically use my Iphone to take pictures on the go. This time I used both. The pics below I took with the Nikon D3100 this past weekend in San Francisco. Check out the postcards I made from my Iphone pics here

More from Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibit in San Francisco

I was so excited to share with you my best pictures from the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit now showing at the de Young Museum in San Francisco.  From 140 pieces of exotic materials, embellished classic silhouettes designed with neutral tones was pure brilliance.

The images below are the best from my point of view.  I had to analyze the collections over the span of his career and write a piece for my fashion design course so I will comment and share my thoughts and views going forward. I hope you enjoy the pieces and feel free to comment and share.  P.S I still have one more to share which is my favorite and I will tell you why. See the imfamous immaculata dress here
